First Day Home

When we left the hospital we stopped by the Altenhofen’s home to pick up Linnea.  When we were all buckled in Nathan looked over at our daughters and sighed, “What happened?  We have two daughters.  We’re a family of four!”  Our first night was pretty good.  I didn’t sleep and Nathan did!  Actually, Nathan got up a couple times to change Sofia’s diaper, which is hard to do with cloth diapers that are too big.  We found out we weren’t quite prepared with all the necessary tools, so we’ll do better tonight.  Like with Linnea, I couldn’t settle down to really sleep, so I’m running on fumes.  Besides being tired, I am so happy!  It’s sunny outside, I’m not pregnant anymore, my body is recovering quickly and I have the most beautiful little baby to snuggle.  I’m remembering now all the sweet things about having a baby.  Sofia smells amazing!  She has the most darling little body, long fingers and toes and just a bit of light-brown newborn hair.  Her skin looks great, just a little newborn spots on her cheeks.  I think breastfeeding is a sweet connection I get to have with Sofia, and it is coming easier the second time around.  We spent our first day home with no agenda, just slowly getting used to being parents of a newborn.   Linnea “helped” change diapers and bring me things.  I mostly spent the day trying to feed Sofia and involving Linnea as much as we can.  Nathan took Linnea to the store to get a few things we forgot, while Sofia and I napped.  It’s been a great first day at home.
